Great Western Trail Drive

June 5-7, 2008

One of Oklahoma's best kept secrets is nestled away in Northwest Oklahoma. The Great Western Trail Drive is three days of historic adventure and good ol' western fun. As you drive a herd of longhorn cattle across the red dirt prairie or mosey along with friends exploring the creeks and canyons, you will enjoy endless skies that are painted with hues of purples, reds, and blues. At the end of the trail on Saturday, the Vici community will be hosting a day full of activities. The riders will drive the longhorns down Broadway to be the stars of the parade. There are always places to shop before going to the complimentary fish fry (mountain oysters for the brave slickers), ranch rodeo (where at least one team is GWTD Riders), and a real boot scootin' dance that will top off your perfect adventure.

Here's how it works!

  • Gates open at noon on Wednesday the 4th of June. Upon arrival you will present negative Coggins test results for each animal, finish registering, and then find a spot to set camp and relax!
  • The Wednesday evening meal is offered by a local civic group for an additional cost and Thursday's biscuits and gravy breakfast is donated. Don't dally too long and miss the meals.
  • The drive officially begins Thursday at 10:00 A.M. with the riders meeting.
  • We will have a Medical Doctor/EMT along on the ride for any emergencies. Several veterinarians will be on call. YOU are responsible for payment of any services, human or animal.
  • Portable potties will be available at camp and at the noon meal. Trees are always available.
  • A 'natural temperature' shower trailer will be available Thursday and Friday evenings until 10:00 p.m.
  • The ice trailer will be available each evening and usually each morning. Bags are $2 each, so bring plenty of ones.
  • Generators must be turned off by 10:00 P.M. Medical needs must be reported at time of registration. We will try to have generator parking, but not guaranteed.
  • We go by COWBOY TIME. We want this to be a fun and relaxing adventure.

Requirements

  • All deposits are non-refundable and non-transferable.
  • All horses will be checked for negative Coggins test results at the gate. Please have papers readily available.
  • Generators are to be off by 10:00 p.m. Generators for medical purposes will be assigned a parking area.

Location

The Wednesday night camp is 1/2 mile east of Vici on Highway 60 and then 2-1/4 miles south on highway 34. The directions will also be on the doors of both convience stores in Vici.

Our driving herd is from Chain Ranch Longhorns.
